New Delhi: Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar has been sentenced to life in prison in the anti-Sikh riots case. The verdict was pronounced by special judge Kaveri Baweja. Sajjan Kumar had earlier been found guilty. The court had said that Sajjan Kumar was not only part of the mob in the riots but also led the riots.

The verdict is in the case of two people killed in the anti-Sikh riots in Saraswati Vihar area on November 1, 1984. Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh were killed. The case, registered by Punjab Bagh police station, was later taken over by a special investigation team.

The prosecution had alleged that Sajjan Kumar carried out large-scale looting, arson and destruction of Sikh property with deadly weapons to avenge the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
