Mohammed Abdul Rahiman Sahab was a Congress leader who worked towards accomplishing freedom for our country and to bring harmony among Hindus and Muslims. As every good attempt, his endeavors were seen as contrived. His struggles were backed by his wife Kunjibeevathu, but small pox took her to death early. He started a newspaper called Al Ameen which was closed down due to destitution. He was beaten by British Police and have spend years in Jail. Later he died a natural death which was still debatable.  This is the thread of the movie Veeraputhran. This was made into an intolerable film by director P.T Kunju Mohammed.

Negatives – Script and Direction

Award winning director P.T Kunju Mohammed still has to understand what a film is. If given right guidance, this film could have been made into a good documentary.

Some bothering aspects – The film is less visual and more babbling. The protagonist is seen undergoing many brutal beatings, but in the very next scene he is as handsome as a film star.

After every scene the same pair is seen again and again and again and again. Don’t you feel a grammar mistake?

In the beginning, viewers were given the idea that, the film is told through different view points of the students who research the freedom fighter. They were seen in the end singing honor and carrying out a procession to Abdul Rahman’s tombstone. This part which stars Sharath Kumar is attached to the main film like a train’s bogie.

Director should put great effort to bring the characters to life. Even after a viewer comes out of theatre he may wonder why Abdul Rahman is considered a great freedom fighter. This film has failed miserably to communicate the story.

Another wasteful spending was on graphics of fawn. What was it for, if the film itself was lacking in every other count. Veeraputhran gives the impression that even the director was head over heels.

Technical

Camera by M.J Radhakrishnan was good.

Positive

The actress was beautiful.

The director had tried to be genuine

Acting

Kamlabhavan Mani, SIddique, Raima Sen, Saikumar, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Ashokan, Mala Aravindan, Vijay Menon were all part of this star studded film. Narien tried to do justice to his role, more or less he repeated Ejo in Achuvinte Amma in a new costume.

This is the failure of another historical film which tried to follow Pazhassi Raja.

As they say in film, the history is written under heavy western influence, the director has to understand those are written in a believable format unlike this movie which failed to convey what has happened.

Making historical film is a great attempt, why don’t they show more efficiency rather than shrouding the history of revolutionaries. The director has put an effort to showcase one of the revolutionary facets of freedom struggle in Kerala. But after watching the film it’s like saying. Who cares?

Verdict – Like the life of Abdul Rahman which most people forgot, this film will have same fate with in a day or two.
