Cochin Haneefa, actor, script writer and director, who died of liver ailment at a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday, was laid to rest with full State honours at the Central Juma Masjid here on Wednesday.
Earlier, his body was kept at Ambedkar Stadium Ground to enable the public to pay their last respects to their beloved actor, from 2 to 4 p.m.
After keeping the body there for about three hours, it was shifted to the Ambedkar Stadium.
The Malayalam cinema industry, represented by actors Mammootty, Mohanlal, Innocent, Dileep, Jayaram, Mala Aravindan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Kavya Madhavan, Bhavana and directors Joshy, Fazil, Sidhique, Kamal, Renji Panikker, along with almost all the other actors and technicians, queued up to pay their homage to the veteran of hundreds of movies. Before taking the body to the Central Juma Masjid, his colleagues from filmdom offered the Namaz-e-Mayyit (last ritual) at the Ambedkar Stadium. Actor Sidhique led the prayer.
The procession reached the Central Juma Masjid by 5 p.m. where the burial was held.
