The US Coast Guard said on Thursday that it had found the remains of a small plane that went missing in Alaska and that 10 people were dead. The plane, which went missing en route to Nome, was found crashed over western Alaska.
The plane was found in the ice on the west coast. There was a pilot and nine passengers on board. The plane took off from Unalakleet at 2:37 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
The cause of the crash is unknown. A Coast Guard lieutenant commander said there were no distress signals. Contact with the plane was lost about an hour after takeoff.
The incident happened 12 miles south-southeast of Nome and 30 miles southeast of the city. There was reportedly light snowfall in the area.
