Istanbul: Turkey-Syria earthquake death toll passes 12,000. 8500 deaths were officially announced. The number of people injured in the earthquake has crossed 10000. About a thousand buildings collapsed. Turkey’s president has declared a three-month state of emergency in the earthquake-hit southeast region.
Finance Minister KN Balagopal announced that Rs 10 crore has been allocated in the budget as relief aid to earthquake-ravaged Turkey and Syria. Minister KN Balagopal announced this in his reply speech after the budget debate in the Assembly.
Police dogs are being used to search the area. There is also the risk of half-collapsed buildings collapsing during rescue operations. Heavy snowfall in the area is hampering rescue operations.
About 24,000 rescue workers are searching in different places. It is a challenge for the rescue workers to save the people trapped among the building debris in sub-zero temperature.
