Heavy rains and floods make life difficult in the Philippines. So far, the government has confirmed the death of twenty-six people due to the floods. Around one and a half lakh people have left their homes and moved to safer places.
Trami, locally known as Christine, brought heavy rains to the main island of Luzon. This led to widespread flooding and landslides. The state meteorological agency said in a morning bulletin that the storm was moving toward the South China Sea with gusts of 95 km/h (59 mph). With this, some northern provinces have been warned of heavy or intense rains, floods, landslides and storms. Trami also hit the northeastern town of Divilacan in Isabela province. But no damage has been reported yet.
Meanwhile, the government has ordered the closure of businesses and schools in view of the heavy rains and floods. The Civil Defense Office said that more than 163,000 people have sought shelter in relief centers. Air services in the country are also currently suspended due to the storm. At least a dozen flights have been canceled by the civil aviation regulator.
