Belgrade: Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Fucevic has resigned following nationwide protests. The reason for the protests was the collapse of a concrete roof in Serbia, killing 15 people.
This led to a strong anti-corruption protest against Fucevic throughout the country. It lasted for several weeks, and Fucevic resigned as Prime Minister.
This was a strong protest by the people not only against the prime minister, but also against the dictatorship of the current President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucevic.
The president is accused of trying to take away many democratic rights.
Fucevic said at a press conference that his resignation would help cool the situation. The mayor of the city of Novi Sad will also resign. The resignation could trigger early parliamentary elections. Although the prime minister and mayor have submitted their resignations, the Serbian parliament needs to confirm them.
