Kyiv: Russia’s airstrikes on Ukraine’s largest nuclear power plant. There were reports of fire and smoke near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Firefighters could not get close to the plant. The International Atomic Energy Agency is assessing the situation in Zaprose.
Zaporizhzhia is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Experts estimate that the attack here will be worse than the 1986 Chernihiv disaster. It remains to be seen whether the reactor at the plant will be affected by the attack. The world will witness a catastrophe if the reactor is damaged.
According to international media reports, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Mitro Kuleba has called on Russian troops to stop the attack on the plant. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. There are six nuclear reactors here. Each reactor generates 950 MW of power. A total of 5,700 megawatts of energy will be generated by the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Five nuclear reactors were built between 1985 and 1989, and a sixth in 1995. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been given a 10-year extension following its 2017 reconstruction. The terminal will run until 2027.
