Amsterdam: Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, a native of the Netherlands, has won this year’s Booker Prize. The award went to her first novel, The Discomfort of Evening.
Marieke Lucas, 29, is the youngest person to win. Booker Prize, who gained attention as a poet, later came into the story world.
The prize money is 50,000 (approximately Rs 49 lakh). Novels or collections of short stories published in non-English languages and later translated into English and published in England or Ireland are considered for the award. That’s why translator Michele Hutchison will share the prize money.
The books that made it to the final round were The Memory Police (Japan), Hurricane Season (Spanish), Till (German), The Adventures of China Iron (Spanish), and The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree (Farsi).
