Porto Prince: Massive earthquake shakes Haiti, a Caribbean island nation. The quake, which measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, killed more than 300 people. More than 1,800 people were injured. Extensive damage has been reported across the country. The death toll is likely to rise further.

The quake affected neighboring countries as well. Waves of up to three meters are expected off the coast of Haiti. Therefore, a tsunami alert was issued. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake has shaken Haiti following a devastating earthquake in 2010.

The preliminary conclusion is that the quake caused severe damage. The international media reports that several buildings have collapsed.

The epicenter was reported, at a depth of 10 km, 150 km south of the Haitian capital, Porto Prince. In addition to Haiti, tremors were felt in neighboring countries.
