Dublin: Indian origin Leo Varadkar will be the new Prime Minister of Ireland. With the expiry of the term of Michael Martin, the leader of Fiannafol, it became clear that Leo, the leader of Fine Gael, is likely to become the prime minister again.
Leo, who is currently Ireland’s deputy prime minister, will take over as prime minister in December, and the current prime minister and Fiannafoul leader, Michael Martin, will step down in December after two and a half years in office, according to an agreement in the coalition government. The ruling front is made up of 3 parties namely Fiannafol, Finagle, and Green Party. Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar is Prime Minister for the second time.
Varadkar, who is also a doctor, was first elected as an MP in 2007. Fine Gael is the largest party in the coalition cabinet. Leo was born in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, as the youngest son of Ashok Varadkar, a native of Mumbai, and Miriam, a native of Ireland. Leo became Ireland’s youngest Prime Minister after winning the election in 2017. Varadkar is also the country’s first openly gay Prime Minister.
