The epicenter was reported 7.5 miles northeast of St. Louis du Sud, southwest of Haiti. The quake affected churches, hospitals, hotels, and homes. The main road from Les Case to Jeremy was blocked by a landslide. A tsunami alert was issued in the area.
A similar earthquake shook the Port of Prince of Haiti in 2010. About two lakh people lost their lives that day. More than three lakh people were injured. The quake, which struck again 11 years later, plunged the entire country into crisis.
