At the same time, China’s top infectious disease expert Wu Sunyu warned people not to touch foreigners and those who had recently arrived from abroad. Many took to Chinese social media to accuse Wu of making racist and discriminatory remarks.
Currently, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 61,282 monkeypox cases have been confirmed in 104 countries. Of these, 60,703 cases are in 97 countries outside Africa. There are 579 cases in 7 African countries including Congo and Nigeria.
