Hamdania: 114 people died in a fire during a wedding celebration in Iraq. More than 150 people were injured. The accident happened in Hamdania area of Nineveh province in northern Iraq. Local media reported that the bride and groom were among the dead. The accident happened on Tuesday night. It was found that poor quality flammable materials were used as part of the decoration which increased the extent of the fire. Allegations that the hall was built using cheap and low-quality construction materials were raised after the accident. Those injured in the accident were shifted to hospitals across the Nineveh region. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani ordered an investigation into the fire. The country’s home and health officials were also asked to lead the rescue efforts.
