Islamabad: 24 people were killed in twin blasts targeting party election offices in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. More than forty people were injured. The blast happened just hours before the general elections.
The first blast took place outside the office of independent candidate Asfandyar Khan Kakar in Pishin district. 14 people were killed and 30 injured. Many of the injured remain in critical condition.
An hour later, ten people were killed and 12 injured in an explosion in front of the election office of Jamiat Ulema Islam Pakistan in Killa Abdullah area.
Abdullah Zehri, a senior police officer in Balochistan, said that the explosives in the bag left in front of the independent candidate’s office exploded.
The police stated that the blast was aimed at the candidates contesting in the elections. But no one claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The Election Commission of Pakistan also confirmed that there were twin blasts. After the explosion, security was increased in areas including Balochistan.
