Islamabad: The death toll in a suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan’s Peshawar has risen to 90. More than 150 people have been injured in a suicide bombing at a mosque on the Afghan border. Today only 9 dead bodies were recovered from the collapsed roof of the church. Rescue operations are still going on.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place inside a mosque in a high-security area. A person who came to pray in the mosque exploded as a human bomb.
The Taliban has a strong presence in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Peshawar is a city that is regularly reported for terrorist attacks.
Condemning the attack, the President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, tweeted, strongly condemning the heinous and cowardly blast at the Peshawar mosque. The culprits will be found and punished. He also noted that condolences are given to those who have lost their family members and prayers for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured.
The explosion inside the mosque proves that terrorism must be buried forever and that the attackers are not Islam.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said. He assured the people that the government would take strict action against those involved in the attack.
