Kabul: At least 18 people were killed in a bomb blast at a mosque in Gazarga, western Afghanistan. Prominent cleric Mujeeb ul Rehman Ansari and others were killed. The primary suspect is that IS is behind the attack. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Herat provincial governor’s spokesman Hameedullah Motawakal has confirmed that 18 people, including the imam, were killed and 23 others were injured. He also clarified that there should be a strong condemnation of brave and strong religious scholars becoming victims of attacks. Some of the injured are in critical condition.
Mujeeb-ul-Rehman Ansari was a staunch critic of the US-backed Afghan government before the Taliban seized power. There were many controversial remarks from this priest, including the beheading of those who work against the Islamic government. He had previously stated in a public meeting that the Taliban flag was not raised easily, so it will not come down easily.
