Tehran: Celebrity chef Mehrshad Shahidi, who took part in the anti-hijab protest in Iran, was allegedly beaten to death by the country’s religious police. The brutal murder took place before Mehrshad’s 20th birthday. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest while his body was being cremated on Saturday.
A 19-year-old man arrested during an anti-hijab protest was beaten to death by religious police while in custody, reports The Telegraph. It is reported that the cause of death was a blow to the head. However, his family alleged that they were under pressure to say that their son died of a heart attack.
However, the Iranian government denied this. Authorities say that there were no injuries on Mehrshad’s body.
