About 30 of the victims were in critical condition, officials said.
The country’s deputy health minister, Amara Jambai, told Reuters that more than 100 people had been admitted to hospitals and clinics across the capital. The accident occurred while a crowd gathered to collect fuel leaking from a tanker that had collided with a bus, officials said.
Following the incident, President Mohammed Julde Jalo visited the hospitals. He said relief agencies would continue to operate. Earlier, several people were killed when a tanker truck exploded in an African country. In 2019, 57 people were killed in a tanker explosion in Tanzania. In 2018, more than 50 people were killed in a similar accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
