Thiruvananthapuram: In the review meeting held today to assess the covid situation and restrictions in the state, Thiruvananthapuram district was excluded from the C category. With this, the Kollam district will be the only district to be subject to strict restrictions. Malappuram and Kozhikode are in category A. The rest of the districts are also in the B category. As it does not fall under any category, Kasargod district will have only the general covid protocol. The review meeting also discussed the possibility of fully opening schools and colleges in the state because of the declining number of covid cases.
The state government estimates that the spread of covid in the state is coming down from its peak. The government has said it will bring in more restrictions on cases as the number of cases declines. So there may be extensive concessions next week.
However, with the exemption from the C category, more concessions will be available in the Thiruvananthapuram district. With this, it will be possible to open movie theaters and gymnasiums. In Kollam, the only remaining district in the C category, however, strict restrictions will remain in place.
