The Film Federation of India (FFI) has announced that Tovino Thomas’ 2018 Malayalam film, 2018: Everyone is a Hero, has been selected as India’s official entry for the 96th Academy Awards in 2024. The film is a survival drama directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and also stars Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, and Kalaiyarasan.
2018: Everyone is a Hero tells the story of a group of people who are trapped in a shopping mall after a series of natural disasters strike the city. The film has been praised for its realistic portrayal of disaster and its heartwarming message of hope and resilience.
Speaking about the film’s selection, FFI President TP Aggarwal said, “We are very pleased to announce that 2018: Everyone is a Hero has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2024. The film is a well-made and moving story that showcases the best of Indian cinema. We are confident that it will be well-received by audiences around the world.”
Tovino Thomas is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed actors in Malayalam cinema. He has starred in several successful films, including Mayaanadhi, Kalki, and Minnal Murali. He is also known for his work in social causes and philanthropy.
2018: Everyone is a Hero is India’s first Malayalam film to be selected as the official entry for the Oscars. The film will compete in the International Feature Film category against films from other countries around the world.
The 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
