Kochi: Milma plans to raise milk prices. Trade unions recommended Milma to raise the price of milk to Rs 6 per liter. A crucial meeting to discuss the hike will be held in Thiruvananthapuram today. At the same time, the government is opposed to raising prices.
Milma had raised Rs 4 per liter for dairy farmers before Onam. This is followed by an attempt to make six rupees. The price hike is due to rising prices of fodder, shortage of milk during summer and importation of milk from other states.
The Thiruvananthapuram Ernakulam Regional Unions recommended Milma to raise Rs 6 each. Milma is of the view that farmers cannot stand unless prices are increased. Due to the summer season, milk is imported from neighboring states. Due to the recent increase in prices, milk has to be imported at higher prices.
But Milma has not informed the government about the price hike. Minister Raju said it was doubtful that the recommendation would be sanctioned despite the recommendation. The price has already been raised twice since the government came to power. The increase is likely to be a setback.
