New Delhi: Five states have decided to extend lockdown in the wake of the sharp spread of COVID. Lockdown has been extended in Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu.
The government has announced a 14-day lockdown in areas including Guwahati. Lockdown until July 12th. States like Jharkhand and West Bengal have decided to extend the lockdown until July 31.
The states which have decided to continue lockdown till the end of June include Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. India’s Covid-19 cases cross five lakh. The death toll rose to 15,685.
States that extended the lockdown
Jharkhand: Lockdown in Jharkhand extended till July 31. In a notification issued by the state’s chief secretary Sukhdev Singh, said all existing restrictions would continue till further orders. All concessions granted by Friday will remain in place and restrictions remain in place until further orders.
Jharkhand has sanctioned many activities outside the containment zone, including restrictions on inter-state service of buses, religious places, saloons, multiplexes, malls, swimming pools, gyms, and educational institutions.
Assam: The state government has imposed lockdown restrictions in the Kamrup metro district, including Guwahati, the largest city in the state, from 7 to 14. It has also decided to introduce a curfew across the state from 7 pm to 7 pm on Friday.
West Bengal: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended lockdown in the state till July 31. On Friday, the state asked the Center to stop domestic flights to Kolkata from states with higher rates of COV-19. The Bengal government has decided to revise the night curfew by one hour between 10 pm and 5 am. Metro services will resume on July 1 in Kolkata.
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, Madurai, Chengalpet, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur districts have been closed from Friday till June 30. Most operations, except essential services, require permission.
Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said the state would return to lockdown mode because of the growing number of cases in the city. Following this, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the lockdown in Delhi has been extended till July 31. The closure is extended with restrictions. Schools in Delhi will remain closed until July 31, but online classes and activities will continue.
Telangana: The number of positive cases of Covid-19 has increased sharply in Hyderabad in the last few days and traders have announced a lockdown. The merchants announced that the shops, business establishments, and public markets will be closed for a period of seven to 10 days.Karnataka: The state government has decided to launch a full lockdown in Karnataka. It will come into effect from July 5.
