122 killed in landslides in Wayanad Today’s rescue operations were coordinated under the leadership of the Indian Air Force, Army, NDRF, Kerala Fire Force, Police, Forest Department and Revenue Local Self-Government Departments. When disaster strikes, government systems are activated to reduce the number of lives lost. Delivering aid to an area cut off from the outside world was a challenge. Proper coordination saved the stranded people in the face of disaster. But adverse weather conditions are a challenge for rescue operations.
The first signs of the landslide came out around 3 am. The state government immediately sprung into action. A 50-member river crossing team of the Navy started the rescue operation. There were medical experts in the Navy team that came from the Ezhimala Naval Academy. The soldiers bravely brought the dead bodies and the trapped people to the shore in a very difficult area.
Army and naval forces were also involved in the rescue operation. 325 members of the fire force are camping in the face of disaster. A 60-member NDRP team along with a contingent from Bangalore will participate in the rescue operation. Various forces are ready in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts. The army decided to construct a temporary bridge to Mundakai. But the army informed that the flow of the Iruvahinjapuzha is obstructed. Then the rescue operation was carried out on the part of the broken road by means of a rope.
Minister MB Rajesh said that employees and guaranteed workers will be deployed for rain-related relief work. Food Minister GR Anil informed that food grains and essential items will be provided to the camps.
