Thiruvananthapuram: Latin Archdiocese roadblock in Thiruvananthapuram today as part of Vizhinjam protest. Fishermen block roads in seven centers from 8:30 am. The strike committee said that they will continue their strong strike until the seven-day demands are accepted. Meanwhile, the cabinet sub-committee may hold talks with the protesters soon.
Roadblocks are in place at seven centers namely Attingal, Stationkadav, Chaka, Thiruvallam, Poowar, Uchkada, and Secretariat. Considering the possibility of conflict, the District Collector banned the strike in Vizhinjam and Mullur. Slogan raising and other demonstrations are prohibited here. From 8.30 am to 3 pm, the fishermen will block the vehicles and block the road.
The Latin Archdiocese is of the position that the protest will continue strongly even though there are crises ahead including the High Court’s order to demolish the protest site in front of the port. It has also been decided to organize solidarity meetings at various centers in the state on Wednesday.
At the same time, there will be consensus talks with the government soon as port construction is to resume quickly. The cabinet sub-committee will meet the protesters after the meeting with the chief minister. The earlier consensus talks failed due to the archdiocese’s demand to stop the construction of the port.
