THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Public Education Minister V Sivankutty said that holiday classes should be avoided in schools under the state syllabus. The minister pointed out that there are many complaints from parents and students regarding this.
According to the Kerala Education Act, the months from April to June are completely summer season. School closes at the end of March and reopens at the beginning of June. It is also alleged that money is collected without the consent of the children and their parents during the holiday classes.
It is hot summer now. It is too hot for children. It can cause mental and physical difficulties in children. The High Court has ordered that vacation classes can be held from 7.30 am to 10.30 am for Class 10 and 12 students in schools not covered by Kerala Education Rules (KER). The High Court has also clarified that this permission will be subject to an administrative order relating to holiday classes.
The Left Front government’s policy is to ensure equal justice for all children. Therefore social justice is to close and open all schools equally. Both parents and students are involved in academic and non-academic activities on their own. The minister also stated that there is no intention to bring control on it.
