Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain continues in the state. Water dams formed in various places including Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. The Killiyar Dam overflowed. Chala market and Thampanoor were flooded.
Heavy rain is still continuing in Kochi. Kalamasery, Tammanam, Moolepadam and other places were flooded. Heavy rain is continuing in the Puthankurish Kolanchery area as well.
Meanwhile, there is a warning that monsoon will reach Kerala within 24 hours. Strong westerly winds prevail over Kerala coast. As a result of this, there is a possibility of moderate to moderate rains with widespread thunder and lightning and wind speed of 40 km in Kerala for the next 7 days, the weather department has warned. According to the Central Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places on Wednesday and heavy rain from May 29 to June 2.
Meteorological department has announced orange alert in 7 districts today. Heavy rain is likely in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. Yellow alert has been declared in all other districts. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea on Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts.
