Trivandrum: Prices of Indian-made foreign liquor in the state will increase.
The information received is that there is an increase from Rs.15. The companies had long ago demanded that the price of alcohol be increased. However, the government has not given up. Currently, the rising pressure is due to the scarcity of spirits. Inexpensive liquor is not available at bars and bevco. The government may also succumb to this price increase. And also there are reports that the companies create artificial scarcity before raising alcohol prices.
Several companies are suspending the supply of alcohol to Bevco. They say this is due to the increase in the price of spirits. It pays 14 percent turn-over tax. Companies have been urging that this be avoided for years. In addition, there is excise duty and import duty. Both are closed by liquor companies. However, as a wholesaler, Bevco has to pay for these, companies are arguing.
The Excise Intelligence Unit alerted earlier that the low availability of foreign liquor may be the reason for the influx of counterfeit liquor.
