Kochi: Vishnu Somasundaram, the main accused in the gold smuggling case at the Thiruvananthapuram airport has surrendered. Vishnu Somasundaram surrendered before the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Kochi. The high court had asked Vishnu to surrender by June 17.
Vishnu is also a friend and manager of the late violinist Balabhaskar. Vishnu’s arrest will be recorded today. The accused, who had earlier been arrested in the case, had reportedly confessed against Vishnu. The DRI had found that the Vishnu and his friend Jithu had smuggled crores of gold from the Gulf to Kerala.
Vishnu was also associated with Customs Superintendent Radhakrishnan. Vishnu’s friend Prakashan Thambi is also accused of smuggling gold. Serena, who brought 25kg of gold from Dubai, also testified about Vishnu’s role. Vishnu was looking for rewards and tickets for gold smugglers. The DRI also found that Vishnu had received several calls on the superintendent’s phone.
