Thiruvananthapuram: Political parties are in disagreement over the conduct of assembly elections. The Left parties have demanded that elections be held by mid-April. The BJP demanded that May month be enough and Congress said that elections be held between April 8 and 12. The Muslim League demanded that the Malappuram parliamentary constituency elections be held along with the assembly elections. The Election Commission replied that the matter could be considered.
The parties expressed their views to the commission members during discussions with Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and others. At the same time, the Election Commission has expressed concern over the spread of Covid in Kerala.
Duplication of the voter list should be avoided. There is no need to extend the time to register to vote. The Congress demanded that seven to five o’clock be enough.
The BJP shared the concern that postal votes would be misused when allotting postal votes to people over 80, Covid patients, and people with disabilities. Therefore, there must be proper control in that regard. The BJP has also suggested that the Union Army come to the affected booths at least two weeks ago and take control.
The Congress and the Muslim League demanded action to curb bogus vote. It is learned that the commission, which will meet the media tomorrow after meeting the officials, will announce the election date within a week.
