Thiruvananthapuram: The proxy system introduced by the Public Distribution Department to deploy replacements to purchase rations for needy cardholders is being further simplified. Accordingly, persons in need who are unable to reach the shops directly to purchase rations may be assigned to purchase rations as a substitute by another person who falls within the scope of the ration shop where the card is registered. In the case of the Covid epidemic, one can apply for the facility by phone or e-mail without going directly to the Taluk Supply Office.
Food kits are being distributed free of cost to all ration cardholders as part of the immunization drive. District Supply Officer K Ayyappadas said that families who do not need food kits temporarily or permanently can do so in writing at the ration shop or taluk supply office before June 6.
