Thiruvananthapuram: KSEB has announced a 15-minute power cut between 6.30 pm and 11.30 pm today due to shortage of power from the national grid. Urban areas and essential services such as hospitals have been deregulated. Total power demand has declined by 10.7 gigawatts due to the increase in demand for electricity across the country and the decline in thermal power generation. The state expects 4580 MW of power from 6.30 pm to 11.30 pm today. It is estimated that there will be a shortfall of 400 to 500 MW in the state today. KSEB requested all consumers to co-operate to minimize power consumption from 6.30 pm to 11.30 pm to minimize power outages. Currently, 14 states have more than one hour of load control. With the arrival of 200 MW of power from Andhra Pradesh to the State and the commissioning of the Kozhikode Thermal Power Station, normalcy will be restored within two days.
