Thiruvananthapuram: Poet and lyricist Poovachal Khader (73), who penned many sweet film songs for Malayalam, has passed away. He died at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College at 12.15 pm on Monday. Relatives said the cause of death was cardiac arrest. He was undergoing treatment for the Covid infection.
He wrote over 2,000 songs for more than 300 films. Khader’s theatrical songs, simple songs, and Mappila songs are also a part of the music life of a Malayalee. He has published books such as Kaliveena, Paaduvan Padikkuvan (Collection of Poems), and Chithirathoni (Collection of Film Songs). He received the Film Critics Award and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award. He was an engineer in the Public Works Department. His wife is AkkotAmina Beevi. Children: Thushara and Prasuna. Son-in-law: Saleem (Department of Co-operation), Ahmed Sherin (University of Kerala).
