Kochi: It has been decided to close all the petrol pumps in the state on the night of December 31, when the New Year is celebrated. The explanation is that the petrol pump is being closed to prevent violence against the employees. An official announcement regarding this will be made soon.
The All Kerala Federation of Petroleum Traders (an association of petrol pump owners in the state) has decided to keep petrol pumps in the state closed from 7 pm on New Year’s Eve to 6 am in January. The president of the organization, Tommy Thomas, said that the action is a precautionary measure.
Attacks on petrol pumps have become a regular occurrence during New Year celebrations. He added that this time the decision was taken to protect petrol pump employees from such attacks and the government should be ready to make laws to ensure the protection of petrol pumps and employees.
