Thiruvananthapuram: Minister K Krishnankutty said that it is wrong news that the electrical charge in the state will be increased by 10 percent. He said the board has not asked for a rate hike at present and the policy decision will be taken by the chief minister. The minister was responding to reports by some media outlets. Unexpectedly, there are rumors that the power tariff will be increased.
The minister said the government has not taken such a decision. Meanwhile, there has been talking of higher rates for use during peak hours from six to ten at night. But the decision has not been made and the minister said he would consider how to do it. The intervention will be needed to reduce the unnecessary use of electricity. At present, power purchases at peak rates range from 8 to 10 percent. He said the policy decision on the issue would be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister.
