Kochi: The CBI is not investigating the Muttil tree cutting case. The High Court rejected the public interest litigation seeking a CBI probe. The High Court said that the case should not be referred to the CBI. At the same time, the High Court has made it clear that if the people feel that the investigation in the cases is not effective, they should be allowed to complain to the court. The court has also issued guidelines for the same.
The public interest petition seeking transfer of the probe into the tree cutting cases in the leased lands to the CBI. A bench headed by the Chief Justice examined the documents including the case diary related to the tree cutting case. The court had observed that there was a big conspiracy in the timber smuggling incident.
However, the government told the high court that there would be a delay in conducting a comprehensive probe into the cases and no CBI probe was needed.
