Thrissur: The health department issued an alert in Thrissur after Nipah virus suspected in a student in Ernakulam. The health department has taken action on the basis that the student was in Thrissur.
With the high-level meeting of the health department officials, the district headed by District Collector decided to remain alert for thirty days.
Special wards have been set up at Thrissur General Hospital and Medical College in the event of the need to be hospitalized in an emergency stage.
Including the hostel-mates at least fifty is under observation. At least 34 people are under observation in Thrissur. The health department has also taken steps to observe doctors and staff at private hospitals, which give treatment for the student.
The student arrived at Thrissur from May 21 to 24 for the training. At the same time, 22 students were trained at Thrissur. Of these, 16 were from outside. There are six persons from Thrissur district. These six persons and their affiliates are in the surveillance health department.
The Health Department has examined the residence of the college student who was suspected of infecting the virus. The team examined the home and surroundings and drinking water and collected more information from the homeowners and neighbors. Following this, a team led by Idukki District Medical Officer N Priya met the college and collected the details of the classmates of the youth. The team led by Deputy DMO examined the water well.
The student and four friends stayed in a rented house near the college where the students study. The students returned home on April 12 but returned to work on the exam. The neighbors told them that they had gone back to the examination, and the students, who were suffering from symptoms, went to a training program in Thrissur. The health condition of four other people who had stayed with the student was investigated. Hospitals are under the supervision of the Health Department.
