Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Akshaya Kerala’, the tuberculosis prevention program of the state health department, has been selected as the best model public health scheme in the country.Akshaya Kerala was selected by the Central Department of Health for its excellence in the prevention of tuberculosis during the Covid crisis and for its accurate delivery of TB services to the homes of all deserving persons. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed about this.The Chief Minister said that as part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the ‘My Tuberculosis Free Kerala’ project is being implemented by the Local Self Government Institutions under the auspices of the Local Self Government Institutions along with the Health Department to achieve the goal of TB eradication by 2025. The Akshaya Kerala project is the third phase of this project. The Covid epidemic posed a serious challenge to tuberculosis prevention activities. There was a delay in diagnosing tuberculosis as the main symptoms of both were cough and fever. The Chief Minister said that Akshaya Kerala has effectively implemented this challenge.
