Thiruvananthapuram: It has been decided to increase the price of milk by Rs 6 per litre. The new price will be effective from December 1. The decision is Milma’s. Minister J Chinchurani had said that there will be an increase in the price of milk in the state by not less than 5 rupees. In a press conference, the Minister informed that Milma is entitled to bring a price hike and milk price hike is necessary to support the farmers.
An expert committee appointed by Milma had recommended an increase in the price of milk. The minister also stated that the report has been received which contains things such as how much increase should be increased and how much percentage of the increase will be given to the farmers.
The increase in milk prices is due to the challenges faced by dairy farmers. In the interim report submitted by the committee appointed by Milma, demand for an increase of Rs 7 to 8 per litre of milk has been demanded. According to the report, the farmers have demanded an increase of Rs 7 to 8 per liter. The report also points out that only if it is increased by that much, the farmer will get at least six rupees after commission and other expenses.
