Thiruvananthapuram: The cyclonic circulation over the southern Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low pressure area. The low pressure area, which is moving northwestwards over the southwestern Bay of Bengal till April 8, will move northwards in the next 48 hours. Due to this, the Central Meteorological Department has stated that there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms in the state on Monday and Tuesday.
A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts on Monday. A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts on Tuesday.
Heavy rain is defined as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours.
Strong winds gusting to 35 to 45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph, are likely over the Andaman Sea, northern parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining southwest-central Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department has also warned fishermen to be cautious as there is a possibility of bad weather.
