Thiruvananthapuram: State Police Chief Anilkanth has issued an order including necessary guidelines for the implementation of a lane traffic system on the Cherthala-Walayar National Highway. The action is on the recommendation of the Petition Committee of the Legislative Assembly, which met to study the lane traffic system.
All district police chiefs should take steps to convince drivers of heavy vehicles including trucks at check posts and toll booths of the need to strictly follow the lane traffic system. The campaign will be launched to convince commuters and drivers about the practicality and necessity of the lane traffic system. District police chiefs will supervise this.
The district police chiefs will take action to convene the meeting of the district road safety council this month itself. South and North SPs in charge of traffic will attend the meetings. The meeting will formulate district-level plans to prevent lane-driving violations.
It has been suggested that vehicles should not be stopped for enforcement of the law. Video cameras, dash cams, and body-worn cameras will be used instead. Number plate recognition cameras will also be used where they are available. It is also suggested that vehicle inspection should not be difficult for the public.
