Thiruvananthapuram: The appointment of three government law college principals in the state has been revoked. The Kerala Administrative Tribunal’s order stated that the UGC norms were not followed. The appointment of principals in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Ernakulam has been canceled. The tribunal was directed to form a selection committee and make the appointment as per the criteria. The order was issued after considering the complaint of Dr. Girishankar, a teacher at Ernakulam Law College.
The teacher of Ernakulam Law College complained that those with sufficient qualifications were not considered for the post of Principal. The Tribunal observed that the Supreme Court’s observation that appointments not complying with the UGC norms of 2018 are void is applicable.
The appointments of Thiruvananthapuram Government Law College Principal Biju Kumar, Thrissur Government Law College Principal PR Jayadevan, and Ernakulam Law College Principal Bindu M Nambiar have been canceled. Apart from the controversies related to the vice-chancellor appointments, 12 arts and science college appointments were also controversial. Following this, the cancellation of law college appointments is a heavy blow to the government. It is reported that the state government may file an appeal soon.
