Thiruvananthapuram: K Jayakumar has won the Central Sahitya Akademi Award. The award is for his poetry collection Pinggalakesini.
K Jayakumar is a Malayali IAS officer known as a poet, lyricist, translator, painter and scriptwriter. He was the Chief Secretary of the State of Kerala and his father was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Malayalam.
He has published five poetry collections, including Ardhavrittangal and Rathriyya Vaishnav, in Malayalam and two in English. His literary contributions include translations of many famous works, including Tagore’s Gitanjali and Khalil Gibran’s Prophet.
He has written and directed a children’s film Varnachirakul. He has written lyrics for more than 80 Malayalam films.
