Alappuzha: Confirmation that the mass death of crows in Alappuzha was due to bird flu. The bird flu was confirmed in the Bhopal lab. Bird flu has been confirmed in crows for the first time in Kerala. A few days ago, it was noticed that crows died in large numbers in some parts of Muhamma, Alappuzha. The bird flu was confirmed after the sample was collected and tested.
In 2011-2012, mass die-offs of crows in Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and Maharashtra were earlier confirmed to be due to bird flu. Meanwhile, the state government has deputed an expert team to visit and study the areas where bird flu has been confirmed in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts in the state. The report is to be submitted within two weeks.
