Thiruvananthapuram: Isolated showers in four districts of Kerala. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast isolated showers in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram districts.
The Met Office has not issued any alert in any of the districts. A yellow alert has been issued in the Idukki district on Friday and Saturday.
However, the monsoon is expected to continue in the state till the last quarter. Three months later, Kerala received 22 percent less rainfall. As of August 31, Kerala received only 1402 ml of rainfall as against the target of 1789.7 mm.
The state received only 416.1 mm of rainfall this time, up from the normal 426.7 mm in August. The last four years have seen more rain in August. The main reason for the declining rainfall is that the monsoon winds do not strengthen even three months after the onset of the monsoon. Eight low pressures have formed so far this monsoon season, but not a single one has strengthened significantly, meteorologists said.
