Kochi: High Court with detailed guidelines for elephant procession in the state. A bench consisting of Justices AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and A Gopinath has issued strict instructions, including the requirement to obtain the permission of the district level committee for religious programs and festivals. There are suggestions in the guidelines such as not making the elephant stand up for more than three hours continuously and to get permission for the procession a month in advance.
Other Important Tips:
– There should be a distance of five meters between the elephant and the fire extinguishers
– A distance of 8 meters should be ensured between the people and the elephant
– There should be a barricade at the place where the elephants stand.
– The district level committee should not give permission to those who do not follow the guidelines
– Do not drive elephants more than 30 km per day
– Do not make parade with elephants on public roads between 9 am and 5 pm.
– Don’t ride an elephant between 10 pm and 4 am.
– Organizers should ensure proper resting place for elephant at night
– Do not travel elephant more than 125 km per day
– Do not drive an elephant for more than six hours a day
– The speed of the vehicle carrying the elephant should be less than 25 kmph
– Vehicle must be speed locked
