Chennai: A red alert has been issued in six districts in Tamil Nadu today and tomorrow following heavy rains. The alert was issued in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpet, Vizhipuram, Tiruvallur and Thiruvannamalai districts. Heavy rains lashed Chennai yesterday evening. Subsequently, floods inundated many parts of the city and made life miserable.
National and state disaster relief forces and fire brigade have been deployed in the area. About 75,000 policemen have been deployed across the state. There are 146 relief camps in Chennai. Educational institutions, including colleges in 24 districts, were given two days off.
