Orange alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Yellow alert has also been issued in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.
The Central Meteorological Department has stated that there is a possibility of moderate rain in the next three hours in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts and light rain in other districts.
A cyclonic vortex is prevailing over Karnataka and adjoining areas. A cyclonic vortex prevails over the central-east Bay of Bengal. Due to its influence, a depression is likely to form over the central-west Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.
As a result of this, widespread rains and isolated heavy rains are likely in Kerala for the next 5 days. The Meteorological Department has informed that isolated heavy rain is also possible on September 8. Extreme caution should be exercised in hilly areas.
Strong winds and bad weather conditions with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph at times up to 55 kmph are likely over Kerala – Lakshadweep coast till September 09 and Karnataka coast till September 10. Therefore, the Central Meteorological Department said that it is not advisable to go fishing.
