Kochi: In a case registered by the Enforcement in connection with gold smuggling, Swapna Suresh has no bail. Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court rejects Swapna’s bail plea. There is prima facie evidence against the accused. Defendant testified that a large network was behind the smuggling. The court rejected the bail plea and said that the accused had confessed that she was a partner in gold smuggling. This is a high profile case involving high profile people in the country and abroad. The court also clarified that matters relating to the conspiracy should be examined.
In his bail plea, Swapnasuresh claimed that she had nothing to do with hawala, Benami transactions, and money laundering. The Enforcement Directorate has not been able to produce any evidence against him in this regard. Sapna argued that what she had earned was legal and that no transaction had been made illegally.
The investigation into the case is in its infancy, including in the office of the Chief Minister. The victim also informed the ED court of his dream. Granting bail for a dream can adversely affect the case. The Director of Enforcement argued that there was sufficient evidence in the case diary that the defendants were involved in the case. There is a lot of mystery about the money in the two bank lockers in the name of Swapna Suresh, the ED also informed the court.
Meanwhile, the remand of eight accused, including Swapna Suresh, Sandeep, and Sarith, has been extended in a case registered by the NIA. The NIA court in Kochi has extended the remand till next month.
