KOCHI: Four students were killed and 20 others were injured in a stampede at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred during a music concert organized as part of the university’s tech fest. The stampede broke out when a large number of students rushed towards the stage to get a better view of the performance.
The injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals. The university authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Eyewitness
Eyewitnesses said that the stampede started when a group of students fell down near the stage. Others who were behind them also fell down, creating a domino effect.
“It was a horrific scene. People were screaming and crying. There was chaos all around,” said an eyewitness.
Police investigation
The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. They are also looking into the possibility of negligence on the part of the organizers.
